I have found that I can become easily disturbed
by news stories about our society turning against God and His
statutes. When I see our own President announcing that we are
no longer a Christian nation, when I hear proposals being
discussed to stop or censor conservative talk shows, and even
messages preached from the Bible concerning homosexuality being
considered hate speech, I find myself wanting to rely on some
political group to step up and put a stop to all of this
insanity! So what can I do?
God reminds me through His Word and by things
that he has done in my life that nothing takes Him by surprise
or is too big for Him to handle.
Throughout Scripture we see all types of people
being used to accomplish God's will. The biography of Joseph is
an example of total trust in God regardless of the
circumstances. I am sure that Joseph did not know God's plan
when he was sold into slavery by his brothers but he chose to
remain faithful. He lived his life in a way that was noticed,
first by Potiphar, one of Pharaoh's officials, then by the
prison warden, and finally by Pharaoh himself; all of them
putting their complete trust in Joseph.
Peter gives this same principal in 1Peter 2:12:
"Live such good lives that though they accuse you of doing
wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day
He visits us". Verse 15 goes on to say "For it is God's will
that by doing good, you should silence the ignorant talk of
foolish men."
Daniel exemplified the power of prayer. He
pleaded with God and confessed the sins of the nation of
Israel . God heard Daniel's prayers and gave him wisdom and
understanding. Take the time to read all of Daniel's prayer in
chapter 9 and consider our country while doing so. Pray for
our leaders, even those we disagree with, that God will give
them wisdom and turn their hearts to Him.
Being naturally a confrontative person, I have
had to learn (the hard way, of course), that arguing only causes
division. Following the examples of Joseph and Daniel brings
glory to God. No political party, no matter how powerful, or
debate point, no matter how
intelligent, can accomplish that!
