Young Adults of Elim,
Growing Together in Christ
It's not an acronym (yet), but reflective of the following definition
of the word (cobbled together from a variety of sources) as
representative of who we want to be and what we want to achieve:
"Rhythmic recurrence, throb of life, vitality, steady cycle, beat,
vibration or undulation, emitted periodically in short bursts."
In particular we selected an organic word to reflect the primary
role of this ministry to help young adults "grow together in
Christ." We've focused a lot recently on the supreme importance of
having a heart that hungers after God, as David's did. David wasn't
a perfect man, by any means, but despite his flaws Scripture says he
was "a man after God's own heart." God's blessing upon his life (and
the lives of those who came after him), was as a result, profuse.
That is our desire as a group, to be imperfect people "after God's
own heart" who seek after and experience the profuse blessing of
God. (Maybe we should acronymize our name as "Profuse Undulations of
Loving, Spirited Enthusiasm!")
Our biweekly meetings will focus on nurturing that hunger for
relationship and that spark of throbbing life. We will flesh this
more out in coming months, particularly as we begin the process of
creating SMART goals for knowing God, growing together in Christ,
and going and serving South Hill and beyond. (And yes, we are
already working on some cool logo ideas! I'm sure we can get Amanda
to make us tee-shirts, as she is now the art queen.)
We are also praying about a theme Scripture verse right now for the
group, and haven't settled on one yet, but a leading candidate is
Prov. 4:23:
Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.
